Creating A Capsule Wardrobe

I Have alot of clothes, I’ll admit. Most of which, I have never even put on, some still even have tags on. So after watching a few Youtube videos about Capsule wardrobes, I knew it was the way to go. For those of you that don’t know what a capsule wardrobe is, It’s where you have a select amount of items in your wardrobe, and you switch it up every three months, whether you pull clothes out of storage, or buy some news ones.  I liked the idea of having a set amount of items that you can make into numerous different outfits, And of course, you’re saving money in the process. who doesn’t like saving money!

Its very simplistic, although you know when you go to your wardrobe to pick an outfit, you won’t be chucking the contents of your wardrobe all over your bedroom complaining you don’t have anything to wear. This was a daily occurrence for me so I knew it was time for change. I needed to streamline. So yesterday, I went though my whole wardrobe and threw away anything I didn’t wear. I’ll admit, I did have a few moments thinking ‘I might need this soon for when I have something important to go to’ or ‘This would look lovely, with that skirt, that I have also never worn’. I was hard on myself. Things had to go. But after I had finished, I was happy with the results. I actually decided to have two separate wardrobes. One for work, and my normal wardrobe. As I work in an office, the stuff I wear to work is fairly formal, so it made sense to have two separate wardrobes.

I was left with hardly anything to be honest, but I was left with all of the items that I wear on a daily basis, things that I know I like and I know I will continue to get the wear out of. After putting all of my unwanted clothes in a bag ready to go to the charity shop, I made a list of all the things I needed to add to my wardrobe so that I would be good to go for 3 months. I was lacking in plain, basic tee’s and basic lounge wear. So next on my ‘To-Do List’ was to buy all the things on the list, because when the three months are up, the weather will be getting abit warmer in Britain (fingers crossed), So i will be able to pull my summer clothes out of storage. I’m thinking of doing some posts on the items I kept and the items I brought to add to my new wardrobe. So look out for those soon!

  1. Inspirational! Any tips on motivating yourself to take the plunge? I need to do this but I’m so scared. haha What do you recommend to ask yourself as you’re streamlining? I feel like I’ll “end up” needing every item eventually (even tough I won’t)lol!!

    1. Thanks! Haha i know, the big thing for me was every time i looked at my wardobe, it just looked so cluttered and horrible! You have to be hard on yourself and ask yourself if you really need that item of clothing and when are you going wear it? I had alot of clothes that i had worn once and they just wasn’t my style anymore, in the past year i think iv’e found my style and realised half of the clothes I had didnt even suit me! Just keep thinking of the results as they are so satisfying, it’s worth it! The best thing to do is write down everything that describes your style and ask yourself do all of your items fit into that style, then you know whether to get rid or not! Hope this helps!
